We encourage you and your family to let us know what you like to eat when you are staying with us. We will always offer you choices for your meals to cater to your taste and dietary requirements.
Sometimes you might need to use food supplements. Our dietitians are here to help with this and will fully explain why they suit your needs.
Don’t like what’s on the menu? Simply let a member of staff know and they will try to find you an alternative.
We also have shops, cafés and restaurants on-site. They offer a variety of healthy meals and snacks and are accessible by patients and visitors.
Protected mealtimes
We have protected mealtimes on all our wards to allow patients to eat and drink in a calm and relaxed environment.
During protected mealtimes, visiting is restricted so that patients can eat in comfort. This allows our staff to make sure everyone is getting the nutrition they need and gives them time to support and assist people who find it difficult to feed themselves.
We have protected mealtimes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We know how important mealtime is and we want to make sure that every patient can eat their meal with as few distractions as possible, just like you would at home.
Meals are served in our wards at the following times:
- Breakfast – 7:30am to 8:30am
- Lunch – midday to 1pm
- Dinner – 5pm to 6pm
If you miss a meal for any reason or are hungry, please let a member of staff know.
Visitors may be allowed to visit during protected mealtimes to help feed your loved one. Please contact the ward for more information about this.
Drinks
All patients are given a jug of cold water each morning. Just ask a member of staff if you would like a top up or some fresh water. We want to make sure you’re properly hydrating to help in your recovery.
Drinks are served with each meal and also at the following times:
- Mid-morning – 10am to 10:30am
- Mid-afternoon – 3pm to 3:30pm
- Evening – 8pm to 9pm
If you would like a hot drink, simply ask a member of staff or one of our volunteers at any time.
Dietary requirements
Meals are available to suit all needs, including ethnic, cultural, religious and special diets. If you have any dietary requirements, some of our food may not be suitable for you. Please let your nurse know as soon as possible and they will make arrangements for your meals or get in touch with one of our dietitians for advice.
