Cervical screening clinics
One in three women currently do not take up the offer of a screening in Teesside. Our staff cervical screening service supports our colleagues who may have challenges taking their invitation for a screening appointment.
Once you receive your invitation, you can book an appointment with this service at either women’s outpatients at the University Hospital of Hartlepool or main outpatients at the University Hospital of North Tees.
Cervical screening is not a test for cancer, but rather a test to prevent cancer – with a small sample of cells checked for certain types of high risk human papillomavirus (HPV). Find out more about cervical screening on the NHS website.

Period poverty and dignity
Our pink box initiative supports staff who are caught short with their period or who need to freshen up if struggling with hot flushes. The boxes contain sanitary products, body spray, disposable pants and tissues.
Our pink boxes can be found at the following sites:
- Hartlepool – toilet 143, specialist services admin hub
- Hartlepool – theatres (staff changing area near to toilet)
- North Tees – people services, third floor, north wing
- North Tees – QC labs
- North Tees – pharmacy department, lower ground floor
- North Tees – occupational health department, second floor, south wing
- North Tees – NTH Solutions wellbeing hub, near Tees Restaurant
- North Tees – ward 38, west wing
- North Tees – knowledge and information centre, ground floor, south wing
- North Tees – ward 22, tower block
- Billingham Health Centre – near to toilets on CCP corridor
We’re happy for staff to take what they need but ask them to please consider others and only take what they need to get through the rest of their day/shift.
The pink boxes have been initially funded via the North Tees and Hartlepool Together staff lottery wellbeing fund, however the continuation of the initiative is reliant on donations. If you are able to support this in any way, please contact Helen Waller, health and wellbeing advisor, via [email protected]
If you are struggling with period poverty and need more support to get you through your period, please take what you need for the day and contact Helen Waller on [email protected] for further support.

Breast screening
From March 2026, staff at University Hospitals Tees will be able to attend their routine breast screening mammograms more easily thanks to an in house drop in appointment session designed to fit around busy work schedules.
If you receive your breast screening invitation letter, you can have your mammogram at a weekly drop in session.
Date: every Tuesday
Time: 10:30am to 2pm
Venue: Breast unit, University Hospital of North Tees
Just take your appointment letter with you to the drop in session.
