Students from St Hild’s Secondary School in Hartlepool were chosen as runners up in December 2024 following a live brief sent to local schools and colleges so they could sensitively and respectfully commemorate the pandemic with an impactful piece of art.
More about each piece
Jasmine King

My artwork is based on the secondary struggles of COVID-19, highlighting the wider impact of the worldwide pandemic. Some of these issues are still struggles for many individuals today, like the financial and emotional burden on both the public and the healthcare industry. I believe it’s important to highlight this today, for other people to understand the further struggles for people other than death and illness, and I hope the piece of art I created can bring these issues into everyone’s mind for the past, present and the future.

In my art piece I drew inspiration from the struggles people faced during covid and the pandemic and tried to incorporate it all in one, with the main focus being the importance of hygiene and mental struggles. It shows the realities of peoples lives at the time.
