A local pool league has ‘broke off’ with tradition and generously donated to North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust’s intensive care unit.
The Stockton-based Tuesday Night Pool League consists of 36 pub and pool club teams, playing weekly home and away 8-ball pool matches.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented completion of the season, which always ends with a presentation evening, the big hearted players decided to donate the season’s evening prize fund of £3,786.52 to our Trust.
John Easby, chair of the league, said: “We’d normally spend this on trophies and other prizes, but the season has had to be cancelled so we decided to give something back.
“We’ve all seen how much the NHS has supported the country and we also wanted to show some support ourselves.”
Steph Gale, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust’s clinical coordinator for critical care, said: “Thank you to the league!
“We’ll be using the funds to make life a little easier for our patients. It’ll pay for radios for them to enjoy and will also help cover some staff training which ultimately benefits the people we care for.
“It’s such a generous donation. I suppose we can ‘chalk it up’ to the players wanting to support the NHS.”
