FRIENDS of a Hartlepool woman visited the chemotherapy unit where she received care, to donate money in her memory.
Claire Ross and Kristina Aspinall, from Hartlepool, visited the chemotherapy unit at the University Hospital of Hartlepool to present a cheque in memory of fellow fundraiser Ursula Taylor, who died in September 2023.
The pair shared their donation of £1,086 on behalf of Ye Olde Durham Social Club and Danny’s Legacy, following a fundraising event in July of last year.
Claire Ross, of Danny’s Legacy said: “Ursula was always very complementary of the hospital and the staff during her treatment.
“She was diagnosed with lung cancer in March last year. Following her treatment we had held a big breakfast social club – a big fry up to raise funds – and we had hoped that Ursula would be able to donate the money to the unit herself.
“After her passing, we wanted to honour that wish and to donate the money raised to the unit who had been instrumental in her care. Two other dear friends, Andrea and Ali had also attended the unit and spoke very highly of it and the staff – so as a group we all decided it made sense to donate to the unit.
“Ursula was such a kind and loved member of our community and will be missed – but it’s nice to know this money will do some good to help others.”
Deputy matron, Rosie Livingston, said: “We’re so grateful for the kind and generous donation made in Ursula’s memory.
“We’re currently having some refurbishments done within the unit, so this money will support buying new furniture and equipment that can be used by future patients.”
“Thank you so much to everyone who attended the fundraiser and for making this donation possible.”
