Savings of more than £2m have led to our pharmacy and medicines optimisation team receiving national recognition after being shortlisted for four prestigious awards.
Our pharmacy team has been recognised for outstanding dedication to making things better in the NHS by the at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Value Awards 2020.
The four categories are:
- Operations and Performance Initiative of the Year
- Specialist Service Redesign Initiative
- Respiratory Care Initiative of the Year
- HSJ Value Award of the Year
The judging panel comprised a diverse range of highly regarded figures across the NHS and wider healthcare sector.
To be shortlisted as a finalist for these awards, despite tough competition from hundreds of brilliant applicants, is a mark of real achievement for the Trust.
The Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation team in collaboration with the multidisciplinary clinical team and finance department have been selected based on their diligence, ambition and the positive impact that their projects have had within their wider organisation.
All projects in different categories have significantly contributed towards improving patient experience and quality of care. As well as providing financial savings that have been both reinvested in direct patient care and contributed towards the organisation’s sustainability.
The total value of medicines savings for the organisation during the year has been £2.4 million. This is against a target of £1 million. Moreover, this has been achieved through prescribing of the best value medicines and minimisation of medicines waste.
