Diagnostic services

The new Tees Valley Diagnostic Centre will open in Stockton town centre early next year.

It will offer rapid scans, tests and checks for a number of health issues in an out of hospital setting – meaning patients get quick diagnosis and any follow-up treatment.

The new centre will offer diagnostic functions including:

• CT scans

• MRI scans

• Ultrasound scans

• X-rays

• Cardiac investigations (including ECG and echocardiology)

• Blood tests

• Respiratory checks (spirometry and lung function)

The hub will also have clinic rooms to allow clinical staff to see patients on the site as part of new diagnostic pathways.

Diagnostic centres across the region have already helped deliver tens of thousands of tests for patients, helping reduce pressures in hospital locations and provide people with quicker appointment dates.

The plans for Stockton are part of a wider transformation of the high street led by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

We currently provide diagnostic care in hospital and the Lawson Street Health Centre by specialists. Patients with ‘nonspecific symptoms’ which could be linked to cancer or other illness are seen within two weeks.

The centre will be run jointly by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with support from the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board.

A range of transport links will be connected to the site, including by bus, train and car. More details about these arrangements will follow in the coming weeks.
