On arrival to the emergency assessment ward, you will be assessed by nurse who specialises in emergency care. You may be at the emergency assessment ward due to injury or illness.
The nurse will need to ask you some questions about your condition and carry out an initial examination.
After speaking with the nurse, you will be seen by a doctor who will carry out your full examination and will talk to you about your condition, medical history and activity levels.
The doctor will arrange for you to have tests, such as x-rays or blood tests, to further your diagnosis.
Once we have completed the assessment and we have your results, you will be seen by a consultant who will decide whether you are well enough to go home with appropriate treatment or if you will be moved onto one of our wards for further care.
