Children's ward

The children’s ward is based at the University Hospital of North Tees. We have a 30 bedded unit and care for children and young people from birth to the age of 16 who are unwell or injured.

Our team of doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, health care assistants and hospital play specialists care for children.

We take referrals from GPs, accident and emergency, nurse practitioners and urgent referrals from midwives and health visitors.

We’ve made sure that everything we do helps to make a hospital stay as comfortable as possible for our young patients. We have a number of play rooms and activities including a teen room on the ward to create a relaxed, calm environment for children and their families.

Would like to express our sincere thanks for the fantastic care our daughter has received on you unit. The unit is very clean, bright and friendly with staff who really care. Play specialists really settled her and explained everything and made our stay in hospital easier.

We have been awarded the national You’re Welcome accreditation from the Department of Health which demonstrates that we are providing a service to their high standards.

Visiting times

Visiting times on the children’s ward are between 10am and 7pm. We are flexible and will accommodate families outside of these times where required.
