We are proud to announce that our midwifery-led team in the Rowan unit has been shortlisted for a major award.
The team has been shortlisted for the 2022 Parliamentary Award in the Nursing and Midwifery category.
The University Hospital of Hartlepool’s Rowan suite opened during the height of the pandemic and brought births back to Hartlepool.
The state-of-the-art birthing suite has welcomed 50 babies since opening in 2021. It includes a water pool, active birthing room and individual rooms with a ‘home from home’ feel.
Beating out more than 700 competitors to be named the regional winner in the Nursing and Midwifery category, the team is excited to be in the final national shortlist.
Anita Scott, lead midwife for continuity of carer, said: ”The whole team is thrilled to be nominated!
“Just being part of the conversation is a huge achievement for us. To know that parliament itself has taken notice of who we are, what we do and the service we provide is an enormous boost.
“We can’t wait to go to London for the awards but win or not, we’re just over the moon to be recognised.”

Jill Mortimer, MP for Hartlepool, nominated the service. She said: “I am absolutely thrilled that the University Hospital of Hartlepool Rowan Suite maternity centre has been shortlisted.
“In both my role as MP and Co-chair of the APPG for maternity, I regularly visit the site and its fantastic staff – I know how hard they all work, from the research department to the midwives and their trainee students. Well done Team Rowan Suite!”
The prestigious awards will be presented at a special ceremony in Westminster on Wednesday 6 July.
