This week we shared the story of Millie Magadlela, one of our own nurses who won her battle with COVID-19 after being under the care of staff in the trust’s critical care unit.
Our medical director and deputy chief executive Deepak Dwarakanath, who had the pleasure of discharging Millie from the respiratory unit, wanted to share his thoughts and emotions.
“Relieved, overjoyed and proud of the team’s efforts.
“I felt great relief that a valued member of staff had overcome this.
“This virus has affected us all in many ways. It’s changed our lives and brought us all together. Our staff are working with an incredible dedication and commitment to make sure we are doing all we can for patients affected, as well as every other patient in our care.
“To have a nurse on the front line who is caring for patients, then becoming sick with this virus and on ventilation in critical care, is a reminder that this is something affecting everyone.
“I know from speaking to many colleagues, how respected and loved Millie Magadlela is across the organisation. She’s a fantastic nurse – caring and compassionate to all her patients. We are all thrilled to hear the news.
“Thank you to all of our staff for everything they are doing for our patients.
“And thank you to you – the public – for following advice and staying at home to help save lives.”
