An NHS blood service has chosen a health trust in Teesside as the first organisation it will team up with as part of a new awareness programme.
The Patient Blood Management (PBM) England from NHS Blood and Transplant has joined forces with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
The team visited the University Hospital of North Tees this week to highlight its work to optimise people’s own blood supply and efficacy to support better patient treatment.
The awareness campaign and pop-up stands are an opportunity to engage with staff, patients, and visitors in hospitals to highlight the benefits to patients, processes, and organisations.
Charlotte Longhorn and Andrea Marshall, from the team, joined Debbie Cox and Marie Walker, from the Trust transfusion team, to share key messages.
Debbie and Marie said: “It was a privilege that the team chose our Trust to be the pilot for this first national event.
“The Trust transfusion team has consistently advocated the benefits of patient blood management for the wellbeing of our patients, and it is always a pleasure to work alongside our colleagues from the PBM England team.”
The team promoted the free resources available, including patient information leaflets, toolkits and a new quality insights continuous improvement audit tool.
Charlotte and Andrea said: “It was a pleasure to be invited to host our first event at North Tees.
“We had the opportunity to talk to some amazing people, taking time out of their busy day to talk to us, learn about our work, and share their own experiences.
“We would like to thank the wonderful Debbie and Marie for being PBM advocates and for supporting us on the day.”
