Hartlepool United Football Club and University Hospitals Tees are joining forces this Restart a Heart Day to help more people across the town gain the confidence to perform CPR and potentially save a life.
Residents are invited to attend Hartlepool United on Monday 19 October to meet experts from UHT’s Health and Social Care Academy, learn simple CPR techniques and find out what to do in the event of a cardiac arrest.
As a thank you for taking part, those who attend the session will be gifted two free match tickets for the HUFC v Hornchurch game on Saturday 24 October.
Restart a Heart Day is a national campaign designed to increase awareness of CPR.
Giving you the confidence you need
Teresa Pounder, University Hospitals Tees’ education and training partner, said: “As a person who has administered CPR to a member of my close family, I can attest that you never know when you may need these skills.
“By working together as a community, we can help ensure more people have the confidence to act in an emergency and potentially save a life.”
Get involved
The informal drop-in session will take place at Hartlepool United Football Club on Monday 19 October, between 10am and 1pm in the Hart of Our Club 1908 Lounge.
No previous experience is needed, and there is no formal classroom teaching.
Whether you stay for five minutes or longer, come along, meet club mascot H’Angus the monkey and learn a skill that could help save a life.
Saving lives together
The collaboration forms part of the Health and Social Care Academy’s and Hartlepool’ United’s commitment to working alongside local organisations and communities to share practical health knowledge and skills.
Keith Nobbs, manager of United for The Community, said: “A cardiac emergency can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time and at United for the Community, we ensure that no one has to face that moment alone.
“By joining the Restart a Heart campaign, we are equipping our neighbours, families, and friends with the simple, life-saving CPR skills needed to protect one another. When we learn together, we save lives together.”
Teresa and her colleagues will also be taking Restart a Heart training out into the community over the coming weeks.
Alongside some well-loved Hartlepool United footballers and H’Angus the Monkey, they will be attending a local football camp for parents and carers on Monday 26 October and a disability football carers group on Tuesday 27 October.
Additionally, the Health and Social Care Academy will also be attending the HUFC v Wealdstone game on Saturday 14 November to give fans the opportunity to learn more about CPR.
