A family have visited the health team who looked after their late mam to thank them and present them with a donation.
The loved ones of Bridget Caygill, who sadly died in August, visited the chemotherapy unit at the University Hospital of North Tees.
The family – Bridget’s daughters Lyndsay Fearn and Jennifer Harsley and Jennifer’s husband Simon brought in more than £1,300 worth of gifts
This included a fridge, thermometers, hand warmers, footrests digital radios alongside a variety of confectionary for the staff and patients.
Chemo unit part of her journey
The family said: “Our beautiful mam passed away after a long battle, the chemo unit was part of her journey for 11 years along with the day unit.
“Mam spent many of days here, with the lovely kind staff so we wanted to give something back.
“Mam also made wonderful friends in the chemo unit so we also bought items that benefit the people currently having treatment.
“Mam’s service was held at Stockton crematorium and the room was completely full, everyone was so generous and the donation box was overflowing.
“The other part of the money came from the fantastic Teesside netball, who had a fundraiser earlier in the year for the chemo unit. Mam was part of the netball community for many years both playing and umpiring and made great friends. They kindly passed across the donations for us to spend alongside the service collection.”
Michelle Holmes, ward matron, said: “We can’t thank Bridget’s family enough, along with their friends and family, for these donations to the unit.
“It means a lot – these items will certainly benefit patients going through their treatment.
“Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to this.”
