A senior doctor is set to join an NHS trust – after being recruited using some innovation in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Donna Wakefield will join North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust as a consultant in palliative medicine.
Donna was offered an interview – but due to it having to take place during COVID-19 – she was not able to have a traditional meeting.
She explains: “The interview took place virtually, which shows how flexible we are all being, using innovation so that things can continue.
“I am really excited to be joining the trust – somewhere where I have worked previously and know is a fantastic organisation with a friendly and committed group of staff doing all they can for their patients.
“I want to play my part in providing high quality patient care – part of my ambition includes having a role in developing new research in the organisation.
“The palliative care team have vital role during this pandemic and I want to do all I can to make a positive difference to patients.”
Donna will join the trust next month when her role in Newcastle with Marie Curie ends.
The trust’s medical director and deputy chief executive, Deepak Dwarakanath, said: “We are delighted to have appointed Donna into this role.
“With her experience and expertise in end of life care, I am sure she will make a significant impact to the organisation in helping us provide the highest quality of care to our patients.”
