North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has begun rolling out a new digital system within its maternity services in antenatal and community this week.
The new system, called BadgerNet, is already widely used within the North East and is an electronic record system that allows patients to access, view and update patient’s care records digitally.
It is replacing the existing paper system and patients will be able to access their notes on the go, on their smartphone, tablet or PC device through the Badger Notes app.
Developed by Clevermed, the system will improve the quality of care for patients across Hartlepool, Stockton and the wider Tees Valley, while helping staff to do their jobs more efficiently. BadgerNET will allow clinical staff a single point of access to the information they need, to make quick and informed decisions about a patient’s care.
Digital midwife, Laura Stephenson said: “The new system will make a huge difference to our expectant mums’ maternity journey, allowing them to access all the details of their pregnancy in real-time and from any location through the convenience of a digital device.
“At your initial appointment, your midwife will provide a passphrase to allow you to access your Badger Notes portal. From there you will have access to your personalised care plan, you’ll be able to add comments and also see outcomes of your visits.
“You’ll also be able to keep track of your appointments and your test results and will be able to work with your midwife to enter your plans and preferences before, during and after birth.”
Your Badger Notes journey doesn’t just stop at birth. It will also be with you, supporting you and your family through your first few weeks together with your post-natal journey.
Laura added: “We’re thrilled to be rolling out this new portal and helping to empower our expectant mums and their families throughout their maternity journey with us.
“The app is very easy to use and we hope that our patients will notice the benefits of the new system. It will help us to place families at the very heart of their own maternity care, throughout their pregnancy and beyond.”
