Following your hearing assessment we would arrange a hearing aid fitting appointment if it is appropriate.
We only offer behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids. There are a choice of three colours that are available such as sand beige, silver or black.
We offer two styles of hearing aids:
Slim tubes
Moulded fit
The style you are given will depend on how bad your hearing loss is and which style the audiologist thinks is more appropriate. The Hearing aids that we provide cover mild losses to profound hearing losses.
If you require an earmould
If you need an earmould the audiologist will need to take an impression of your ear and send this off to get made. Once we receive the custom earmould, we can then arrange a hearing aid fitting appointment.
CROS and BiCROS hearing aids
We do offer contralateral routing of signal (CROS) and bi-contralateral routing of signal (BiCROS) hearing aids. CROS and BiCROS hearing aids can help if you’ve completely lost hearing in one ear. They come as a pair. The hearing aid in the ear with hearing loss picks up sound and sends it to the hearing aid in your good ear. This is done wirelessly.
What will happen at the hearing aid fitting?
A hearing aid fitting is an appointment to have new hearing aids loaned to you to help with your hearing loss. This is usually carried out by an audiologist and lasts around 30 to 45 minutes.
- The audiologist will examine the condition of your ears by looking into the ear canals with a small light
- The audiologist will select and program the hearing aids using a computer
- There will be a couple of tests performed called verification tests. Sounds are played from a speaker with and without hearing aids in your ears and this ensures they match your recent hearing test results
- The audiologist will instruct you on the controls, how to change the batteries, how to insert the hearing aid into your ear and how to keep them clean
- The audiologist will provide counselling to help you get used to the new sounds and a new way of hearing
- We will issue you with an individual management plan which will include information from the appointment and what future care we will provide
- We will get in touch in around six to eight weeks following your hearing aid fitting to check how things are going. This appointment will be either a face to face appointment or a telephone appointment
- Tubing on aids need replacing every four to six months. You would need to arrange an appointment to have this done, or ask for them to be posted out if you would like to do this yourself
- If you have any problems with your hearing aids you will need to book an appointment
