What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy provides practical support to empower people to facilitate recovery and overcome barriers preventing them from doing the activities (or occupations) that matter to them. This support increases people’s independence and satisfaction in all aspects of life.
How we help children
Our team of specialist children’s occupational therapists and therapy assistants will provide assessment, treatment and advice to children and their families in a range of locations including home, school or hospital clinics. We assess and treat children who have long-term health needs or problems with movement and co-ordination.
We will make sure your child reaches their potential. We know how important it is to you and your child for them to become as independent as possible either with self-care, activities of daily living, in school, in play, leisure and for them to be safe and have better mobility and co-ordination.
We work alongside other professionals involved with your child to ensure a holistic approach to treatment and assessment.
You can be referred to us by any health care professional and some selected professionals in education. We provide our service from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. You may be asked to sign a consent form which will allow us to see your child in school at times when you may not be able to be present. Your child’s occupational therapy treatment may include:
- exercises
- hands on therapy
- equipment provision
- advice and strategies to use at home or school to complement therapy
- group activity to improve co ordination
