Introduction
The following protocols are guidelines only. Operation notes must be read carefully in case of special instructions affecting rehabilitation. If post-operative advice is not clear please discuss with the relevant surgeon.
All patients should be given a pre-operative leaflet of their relevant procedure at the time of listing the patient for surgery or at the pre assessment appointment.
A post-operative leaflet should be given to the patient with his first physiotherapy session post-surgery as an in-patient. When the patient comes for his first physiotherapy out-patient appointment, the physiotherapist should check if the patient has received this post-operative leaflet. If not, the patient should be given another leaflet to take home following their first appointment.
Of course alternative exercises to the ones on the post-operative leaflet can be given, provided they are in line with attached protocols.
