You Matter. We Care.
For many people, hospital can be a challenging and lonely experience. It can raise all sorts of questions, worries and fears.
Because of this, the Trust has a team of chaplains who are there to offer impartial, non-judgemental and accessible care to everyone – patients, visitors and staff – that would benefit from someone to talk to.
This support is open to everyone. You do not have to follow a particular faith to speak to the chaplains. Chaplains simply facilitate pastoral, spiritual and, if appropriate, religious care at any point of your stay or visit.
The Care we offer:
- Sounding/listening board – Someone to talk with.
- Inclusive – Available for everyone, regardless of faith, belief, outlook or way of life.
- Presence – Simply being there, providing space to reflect.
- Available – 24/7 on-call service.
- A point of contact if specific faith needs arise such as;
- Prayer, bedside communion, anointing.Sacrament of the sick or final prayers.Contacting your own faith leader.
Our Values and Principles:
We seek to be available 24/7 through our ‘on-call’ chaplaincy service.
We seek to recognise that each person is an individual of immense value and worth and will be treated accordingly.
We seek to be respectful of religious and cultural diversity.
We seek to be attentive to the needs of the people we address.
We seek to be a ‘hopeful presence’; available to stand alongside with care and compassion.
Oasis Spirituality Centre: North Tees & Hartlepool
Both our hospital sites have a chapel or Oasis Spirituality Centre: an ‘oasis’ of peace amidst the busy pace of the hospital. We invite people of all faiths or none to use this space for quiet moments of stillness and reflection.
We have three regular opportunities where there is space for personal reflection, prayer or to light a candle.
North Tees:
- Light a Light – Drop into chapel between 12pm and 2pm: First Tuesday of each month. Light a candle to mark the significance of past, present or future events.
- Light and Hope – Short memorial service remembering all those touched by the tragedy of baby or child loss. 12.15pm to 12.45pm: Every last Tuesday of the month.
Hartlepool:
- Light a Light – Drop into chapel between 12pm and 1pm: First Wednesday of each month. Light a candle to mark the significance of past, present or future events.
