What is an X-Ray

An X-ray is a test that is done in a hospital. 

It is like having a photo taken of the inside of your body. 

You may take a carer, friend, or other supporter with you.

When you get here

When you arrive for your X-ray you will need to give your letter or card to the person at the desk.

Sit in the waiting area

You will need to sit in a waiting area until it is your turn to have your X-ray.

Your name will be called

When it is your turn, you may need to put on a hospital gown and take off some of your clothes.

What will happen

You will enter the room and the door will be closed behind you.  

 When the X-ray is finished, you will leave the room through a different door.

Getting your x-ray done

A member of staff will take your X-ray. The member of staff will go behind a screen to take the X-ray. 

You may be stood up.

Or you may be asked to lay down.

What will happen

Your supporter can stay with you if you would like them to. 

They will have to wear a lead apron if they stay with you unless they go behind the screen.

Getting ready to leave

Once your X-ray has been done you can get dressed and go home.

Getting your test results

Your GP or hospital will let you know the results of your test.
