What is an ECG

An ECG is a test to check how healthy your heart is.

You can take a carer, friend, relative, or other supporter with you.

What will happen

You will be asked to take your top off. Stickers will be placed on your chest, arms and legs.

To make you feel more comfortable, we can give you a gown to wear and we can close a curtain round you.

We can also dim the lighting if this will make you feel more comfortable.

We will make sure that your chest and shoulders are covered as much as possible.

We will do everything we can to keep your dignity and privacy.

During the test

You will need to lie still while the machine takes a recording of your heartbeat.

It is important that you do not talk while you are having this test.

The test is painless, but it may hurt slightly when the pads and stickers are removed.
