Hospital group launches coffee mornings to support local veterans

We are inviting veterans and their families to a free coffee morning to find out more about support available to them.

The event is hosted by University Hospitals Tees – our local hospital group consisting of both North Tees and Hartlepool and South Tees Hospitals trusts. No booking is needed, those interested can simply drop in.

Open to all veterans of any branch of the armed forces and reserves, it is an opportunity to build a local network and find out more about support available in the local area. It is also an opportunity to shape how the hospital group can support the armed forces community going forward.

This coffee morning marks the first of the quarterly event launched by the partnership.

The event is also open to staff across University Hospitals Tees who have served or who are currently serving.

Laura Lucas-Hartley is senior general manager to chief medical office and armed forces management lead. She said: “University Hospitals Tees is proud to hold the ‘Veteran Aware’ accreditation and we’re committed to supporting those who have served.

“We’re hosting these events as an opportunity for our armed forces community to come together, have a cuppa and find out about the support available across our patches. It’s also a chance to let us know about any further support they might want to see – to help shape the role and responsibilities our NHS trusts play in not only their healthcare, but in their family, social and working lives as well.”

It comes after a number of similar successful events at the University Hospital of North Tees over the past year. The group has also recently launched a new volunteer to career scheme to support veterans back into work.
