We have been celebrating our hard work to gain improved digital maturity as we receive our Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) accreditation as a national digital leader from NHSX.
The Trust was awarded the GDE fast follower accreditation following a three-year programme of dedicated work to improve digital outcomes.
The programme saw our organisation become one of the first digital fast followers in the country.
We have delivered a huge number of digital related developments. We have also supported other trusts in working towards digital maturity, through a sharing and learning “blueprint” process.
The Trust also reached the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Level 5 status during the period of the programme. HIMSS is an international standard used to recognise digital adoption within healthcare.
Our commitment and hard work
Professor Graham Evans is our chief information and technology officer. He said: “I’m very pleased to share that we have achieved the GDE ‘national digital leader’ accreditation from NHSX. This reflects the level of commitment and hard work from all of our frontline staff and ICT and digital teams over the last few years.
“We have worked hard to demonstrate that as an organisation we are continuously striving to provide world-class digital technologies. And we are delivering – what can potentially be – lifesaving information to staff at the touch of a button.
“The pandemic especially has really highlighted the importance of ensuring our digital systems are fit for purpose. The greater use of digital technology is delivering high quality healthcare to our patients and local communities.”
Graham continued: “The Trust is looking forward to welcoming a formal accreditation visit from NHSX later in the year.
“It will be a real moment to celebrate receiving the accreditation award. It’s a great opportunity for the information and technology service to showcase some of the innovative digital development that has taken place over the past few years.”

What is NHSX?
NHSX is a joint unit of NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care. It supports local NHS and care organisations to digitise their services.
It connects health and social care through technology. And it transforms the way that patient care is delivered in the home, community and hospital.
What is the GDE?
A Global Digital Exemplar is an internationally recognised NHS provider delivering improvements in the quality of care, through the world-class use of digital technologies and information. Exemplars will share their learning and experiences through the creation of blueprints to enable other trusts to follow in their footsteps as quickly and effectively as possible.
The NHS Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) programme was launched by NHS England and NHS Digital in 2016 and helps digitally advanced and mature trusts to share their knowledge and learning with other NHS Trusts.
