A senior doctor has been awarded a training accolade by a regional programme for the high quality of tuition he delivers.
Orthopaedic consultant for lower limb and trauma surgery, Anwar Jafri was presented the ‘Hospital Clinical Supervisor of the Year’ award by Health Education England’s Durham and Tees Valley Training Programme at a virtual ceremony held recently.
Several of Mr Jafri’s previous GP trainees nominated him for the accolade, following time-spent training on rotation within the orthopaedic outpatients department at the University Hospital of North Tees.
Mr Jafri said: “I was both pleasantly surprised and thrilled to find out I’d won the award. Knowing that I’ve made enough of an impact with my GP trainees to have them nominate me is truly humbling.
“I enjoy being an educator within the scheme and our orthopaedics department is committed to training all members of staff and in investing in local trainee GPs’ futures. Being able to support the healthcare aspirations of a region I love is something I have personally found really rewarding to be a part of.”
The regional education programme provides training for the current and future generations of general practitioners, supporting the educators and the wider GP community across the North East and Cumbria.
“An absolute gem”
GP trainee Dr Kingsley Njoku said: “I had the personal pleasure of working with Mr Jafri both directly and indirectly in clinics, theatres and during ward rounds and his support has been invaluable. It was with great pleasure that I nominated him for the award and his homed based recognition for the work he has done in supporting myself and other trainees is fantastic.
“One of my fellow GP trainee colleagues who also nominated Mr Jafri described him as ‘an absolute gem who does not discriminate between any trainee and ensuring that GP registrars have all the support needed to succeed in their task’. I could not agree more with this sentiment and his win is well deserved!”
