North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is currently recruiting for patient safety partners. This is a new role which asks for members of the community to work with the NHS to make care safer for patients.
Partners are asked to commit to one to two days a month. This includes attending a monthly safety and quality committee meeting. They may also carry out other activities between meetings such as:
- Working on patient safety improvement projects
- Working with the Trust board to consider how to improve safety
- Involvement in staff patient safety training
- Participation in investigation oversight groups
Each partner will receive £150 per day for getting involved as well as reimbursement for reasonable expenses.
Lindsey Robertson is chief nurse and director of patient safety and quality. She said: “At North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, patients are at the centre of everything we do. We are always striving to evolve and improve our services. And we want to ensure patients are at the very forefront of these changes.
“We are looking for members of our community to work with us, be our critical friend and represent the views of our patients, their loved ones and our wider community.
“Your openness and honesty as one of our patient safety partners means we can understand more about the needs of our patients and make meaningful changes to improve the care that we offer.”
The patient safety partner role is a new and innovative position within the organisation with scope to evolve over time. It is initially a fixed term role for 18 months with the opportunity to extend.
The role is outlined in NHS England’s framework for involving patients in patient safety.
