Midwives in Teesside have gathered to celebrate successes over the last few months and discuss the future vision for maternity care.
The midwifery team at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust came together for an event this week.
From antenatal care, to pregnancy, birth and postnatal care and investment in the current and future workforce, a wide range of topics were covered.
Steph Worn, associate director of midwifery, said: “It has been a fantastic few months for the perinatal service – with the service making significant progress towards achieving the national recommendation to improve services.
“There have been some real stand-out pieces of news over recent weeks and this event was an opportunity to not only celebrate these and look at lessons learned, but also think about future plans.”
The event, organised by senior clinical matron Gemma Gordon and held at Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield, included presentations from community staff, vulnerabilities midwives, the continuity of carer initiative and the role of antenatal midwives and preterm birth midwives.
This was followed by updates from the antenatal and newborn screening team, the fetal wellbeing midwife, the bereavement midwife and research midwives and the Trust’s Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation.
Further presentations were given by the reflections service, safeguarding midwives, the digital midwives, practice development midwife, delivery suite team leaders and the recruitment, retention and pastoral midwives.
Real team commitment
Steph continued: “When you look at the number of specialist roles and services we now have in place, and the individualised care we are giving to our women and babies, it is fantastic to see.
“The perinatal service has achieved so much over recent months and everyone in the service continues to show real commitment to pushing it forward even further in the future.
“We want to hold more of these events in the future, including for the wider midwifery teams to celebrate their work and highlight successes.”
