Local people are being given the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at state-of-the-art breast imaging facilities as the University Hospital of North Tees hosts an open day on Monday 1 December, 9am to 4pm.
As part of its ongoing commitment to making breast screening more accessible and inclusive, the hospital particularly welcomes women due to attend their first appointment and those with disabilities or additional care needs.
Expert team
Guests will have the opportunity to meet the expert breast screening team, tour the mobile screening unit, learn about the process and ask questions in a relaxed and supportive environment.

No imaging will take place on the day as clinical imaging is by invitation only.
Mammographer Rachael Wright said: “We know that coming for a breast x-ray may feel daunting, especially for women who have specific needs.
“Our open day is a chance for anyone to see the unit, meet our staff, and find out how we can support them. We want everyone to feel confident that breast screening is for them, no matter their circumstances.”
The team are keen to help make breast screening appointments more comfortable for people with additional care needs.
No need to book
There is no need book in advance to attend the open day – please come direct to the mobile breast screening unit at the front of University Hospital of North Tees.
Anyone with mobility issues who would prefer a location without steps, can contact the team to arrange for a visit to the main hospital breast department on the day.
Carers, friends and family members are also encouraged to attend.
