At University Hospitals Tees, listening to women and families is at the heart of how we continue to improve the quality of our maternity and neonatal services.
This year, our group is supporting two national NHS surveys designed to gather real experiences from parents and help shape future care.
NHS Maternity Survey
The 2026 NHS Maternity Survey invites women to share feedback on the care and support they received throughout pregnancy, labour and birth, and in the weeks after giving birth.
Mums who gave birth under our care in February 2026 may be contacted directly by the NHS and invited to complete a short, user‑friendly survey about their maternity journey.
Neonatal Care Experience Survey
At the same time, the NHS is also gathering views on neonatal care.
Parents whose baby received care from our neonatal team in June, July or August 2025 may be invited to take part in the Neonatal Care Experience Survey.
Both national surveys are being carried out across the UK, and the feedback gathered will help improve maternity and neonatal services both locally and nationwide.
Listening is vital
Patient Experience Team survey lead Charlotte Pett, said: “Listening and learning is vital. It’s the only way we can be confident our services genuinely meet the needs of the families we care for.
“We constantly ask for feedback – whether that’s through our quick ‘Friends and Family’ text messages or through spending time with families to hear their stories and make real improvements.
“We know that anyone who gave birth in February will have their hands full with a new baby, but we really encourage every mum who receives a survey letter to take part. Previous survey feedback led us to expand the information available on our online systems, making it easier for mums‑to‑be to find what they need. Your views really do lead to change.
“Likewise, we encourage any parent invited to take part in the Neonatal Care Experience Survey to share their views. Your baby is precious, and we want to understand how you felt about the care they received.
“All responses are completely confidential and will help us – and maternity and neonatal teams across the country – understand what we are doing well and where we can improve.”
Survey invitations will continue to be posted out to selected households until April, with national results published later in the year.
