Middlesbrough Football Club has backed our calls for England fans to enjoy tomorrow night’s Euro match against Czech Republic in safety.
With the national team’s progression to the knockout stage of the tournament a mere formality, Boro is appealing for England fans to not overdo the celebrations and to absolutely not drink and drive after the game.
Boro midfielder Jonny Howson said: “I know everyone is going to get behind England, and we all hope we do well.
“But, if you’re planning to drink, do the right thing and make sure that you don’t drive. Walk, get a taxi, or a lift, but don’t get behind the wheel.”
The renewed appeal follows the England vs Scotland match on Friday.
Nicola Grieves, Trust clinical lead for urgent care centres, said that while the number of patients visiting A&E and the Urgent Care Centre was fewer than after England’s opening match with Croatia, there were still too many football-related injuries that required medical attention.
Nicola said: “It was pretty horrendous on Friday night to be honest. The Police had to bring quite a lot of people in. And there were certainly more drug issues than we would normally see on a Friday night.
“There was also a lot of injuries caused by fighting. There’s really no excuse for fighting over the football.
“No one would be happy if they were kept waiting because we’re dealing with people who have been injured fighting over a football match. Please keep our A&E and the Urgent Care Centres free for those who need our help the most.”
