As University Hospitals Tees marks International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses Day, chief nursing officer Emma Nunez has said a special message of thanks.
She said: “Every year we mark two professions at the heart of our health service – nursing and midwifery.
“I have the privilege of seeing the extraordinary impact of these roles every single day — in our hospitals and our communities. These two days give us a chance to reflect, to recognise and to say a heartfelt thank you.
Thank you to nurses and midwives
Hi everybody. My name’s Emma Nunez. I’m the chief nursing officer for University Hospitals Tees.
Massive happy international nurses day for the 12th of May for our nursing colleagues and happy international day the midwife for our midwives on the 5th of May. Thank you for everything that you do.
We are hugely privileged as nurses and midwives to spend time and care for patients 247.
Highly skilled roles that provide care and treatment to those patients continually and I know they are hugely thankful to all of you.
I hear it from patients who send us compliments all of the time about the work that our our teams do. So, thank you again and enjoy your days.
Nurses and midwives are the constant presence for patients throughout their healthcare journey. They provide expert clinical care as well as reassurance, compassion, and the ability to make people feel safe at their most vulnerable moments.
“Whether supporting a woman through labour, caring for someone living with a long term condition, or responding to an emergency on a busy ward, their professionalism and humanity are what makes them able to perform these roles.
“Despite the pressures, nurses and midwives continue to innovate, lead services, redesign pathways and push the boundaries of their practice. From advanced clinical roles to research, digital transformation and community based care, they are shaping the future of the NHS with skill and determination.
“I want to pay tribute not only to those delivering care, but also to our students, our internationally recruited colleagues, our healthcare support workers and everyone who supports the wider nursing and midwifery family. Each of you contributes to a service that millions rely on.
“As we mark these important days, I hope every nurse and midwife takes a moment to recognise the difference they make. The NHS simply could not function without you — and we are so grateful for all that you do.”
