Our specialists carry out planned and emergency surgery for thousands of patients every year in our operating theatre suites.
These are located on two sites – the University Hospital of North Tees from where both emergency and planned surgery is carried out and from the University Hospital of Hartlepool which is our main site for non-urgent operations.
We carry out many surgical procedures for patients in the area we serve and from further afield including:
- general surgery
- breast surgery
- orthopaedics (broken bones)
- obstetrics and gynaecology
- urology
- colorectal
- community dental
- maxillo (facial) surgery
- bariatric (weight loss) surgery
Most patients will go to the access lounge on admission where you will be prepared for your operation. Many of our operations are carried out as day-case procedures, meaning that if appropriate you may be discharged from that unit if are going home on the same day as your operation.
Surgery hours
Planned surgery is carried out from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6.30pm
Emergency surgery and obstetric surgery is performed in dedicated emergency theatres 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
