Information for patients
This leaflet can be made available in other formats including large print, CD and Braille and in languages other than English, upon request.
You may have fractured (broken) one of the small bones in your wrist called the ‘scaphoid’.
A crack or other injury may not show up on first X-rays.
It is important for us to detect these injuries as they can lead to problems if not detected and treated.
To examine the wrist in more detail, an MRI scan may be arranged, following further clinical review by the Orthopaedic team.
You have been provided with a splint to wear to support the wrist and help to relieve pain.
The orthopaedic department has been informed about your injury and you have been provided with an appointment in two weeks’ time to be reviewed.
If all is well you will be discharged at this appointment.
If you still have pain in the scaphoid region after clinical examination and further X-rays, you may be referred for an MRI scan.
Following the MRI scan, your treatment plan will be discussed with you.
Should you have any worries or concerns following discharge from A & E or Urgent Care, please contact:
