A hospice in Teesside is set to re-open its inpatient unit after teaming up with our Trust.
Butterwick Hospice Care is working with our Trust in opening its adult in-patient unit in Stockton.
The hospice’s partnership with the Trust means it will be able to open beds, offering specialist care for patients.
The unit, staffed by a team of health professionals and volunteers, will also include support from staff from the Trust.
Edward Gorringe, chief executive of Butterwick Hospice Care, said: “I am delighted that Butterwick Hospice Care will once again be admitting patients to our Adult Inpatient Unit in Stockton.
“Choice in end-of-life care, and the kind of treatment and support that a hospice can provide, is essential and was the driving force behind the creation of our hospice by Mary Butterwick almost forty years ago.
“The involvement of our colleagues at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has been key to achieving this, both in planning and preparation, and in supporting the delivery of our services going forward.”
“The unit’s nurse-led team is supported by a wide range of specialist staff including nurses, doctors, health support workers, physiotherapists, family support workers, and catering and housekeeping staff. The inpatient team will work closely with a wide range of staff in the Trust to ensure clinical knowledge and expertise involving individual patients is shared.
It has been a pleasure engaging with the Trust and I look forward to our continued co-operation and collaboration in bringing the best possible care to our community.”

Lindsey Robertson is chief nurse and director of patient safety and quality at the Trust. She said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Butterwick Hospice Care in the re-opening of the in-patient unit.
“As part of this, patients who are already known to us and have been under our care will be able to be cared for in the in-patient unit. Our staff will share their knowledge and expertise about these patients.
“We look forward to working with Butterwick and helping our patients get the best possible experience under our care.”
