Hartlepool’s revamped birth centre, the Rowan Suite at the University Hospital of Hartlepool, has proven a hit as 40 women have booked to give birth in the unit so far.
The team of six dedicated midwives began taking bookings on Tuesday 1 September for women considered to be low risk to have their babies in the Rowan Suite. The suite includes a birthing pool and an active birthing room as well as private en suite delivery rooms.
We encourage women to remain healthy throughout their pregnancy.
A support plan is in place to keep mum and baby safe during birth at the suite. This is discussed with each woman as she books for her maternity care with the midwifery service.
Forty bookings equates to 50 per cent of the eligible low risk women of Hartlepool choosing to book for their maternity care with the team. The midwives feel this is a great start for the suite.
We can’t wait to meet the first babies
Stephanie El- Malak is Head of Midwifery for the Trust. She said: “The team consists of six midwives who will care for the woman throughout all stages of her pregnancy.
“We’ve put so much into getting this facility up and running. We know it is what the people of Hartlepool want. It is a beautiful relaxing environment to have a baby and I think the women will have a very special experience here as they see their baby for the first time.
“We can’t wait to meet the first babies born at the Rowan Suite!”
The first births at the suite are due at the end of February.
