Emergency assessment unit and ambulatory care

Our doctors, nurses and support staff on the emergency assessment ward will care for you 24/7 if you have been either brought into hospital by ambulance or if you have been referred to us by your GP, community nurse, our accident and emergency department or outpatient clinic.

You will be assessed by a nurse who will ask you some questions. You will then be seen by a doctor who will carry out your examination and will talk to you about your condition and medical history. They will arrange for you to have tests such as xrays and blood tests so we can find out your diagnosis.

Once we have completed the assessment and we have got your results back, you will be seen by a consultant who will decide whether you are well enough to go home with appropriate treatment or if you will be moved onto one of our wards for further care.

Thank you for looking after me with compassion and consideration – you all deserve medals.
