Support Groups

The Cancer Information Centre holds a vast range of up to date information about local cancer support groups including Breast, Lymphoma, Prostate, Bowel and Ovarian, amongst others.

The Cancer Information Centre facilitates a range of activity support groups including Craft and Chat, Walk and Talk and a Gardening Group.

Headwear Service

Some types of cancer treatment can cause hair loss.  Advice and support is available from the Cancer Information Centre to access a range of products   The Centre stocks a range of bandanas, turbans and head caps in different colours and materials and provide advice and support on a variety products.  Specially trained staff and volunteers can help you decide which style to choose and offer demonstrations and tips on how to wear it.

Look Good, Feel Better

Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) is the only international cancer support charity that helps women and teenagers manage the visible side effects of cancer treatment.  Their aim is to greatly increase people’s confidence and self-esteem at a very difficult time in their lives.

LGFB provide free confidence boosting skincare and make-up Workshops and Masterclasses for women undergoing treatment for any type of cancer.  The sessions are an opportunity to meet others in a similar situation whilst being taught vital skills such as how to draw on missing eyebrows and eyelashes.

Financial Advice

Planning and managing your day-to-day finances can become more important when you have cancer.  If you are struggling to cope with the financial impact of cancer, help is available for you.

Services you can access through our Cancer Information Centre include West View Advice and Resource Centre and Stockton Citizens Advice Bureau.  They are free and confidential and can help with things such as fuel debt support, access to energy discounts, referral for a benefit entitlement check and access to emergency grant funding.

Macmillan Support Line

The Macmillan Support Line staffed by trained experts, offers people with cancer and their loved ones practical, clinical, financial and emotional support.

You can call the helpline free on 0808 808 00 00.

The support line provides emotional and practical support, or can just listen if you need to talk.  They will help find the best support for you, which could be arranging for you to speak with a member of the specialist team in relation to your cancer diagnosis and treatment, financial guidance, work support, welfare rights or energy advice.
