Ankle and Foot Injuries – Discharge Advice

Advice about your injury

You have had a soft tissue injury to your foot and ankle, as part of this you may also have had an avulsion fracture (chipped small piece of bone).

Any pain, tenderness, discomfort and swelling you are having should slowly settle over a period of several weeks.

During this time, you may find walking painful. It is advisable to keep the foot elevated on a pillow, higher than your hip height when sitting.

You may be provided with a support for the foot in the form of bandaging or a removable boot, depending upon your injury.

If required, you will also be provided with crutches.

You will be given advice regarding how often you should walk. If you are provided with a removable boot this should be worn as advised by clinic.
