  1. Pathology tours make it to the press

Last week, the trusts pathology department opened its doors and welcomed visitors in to see exactly what goes on in the hospital’s laboratory. This week, both the Hartlepool Mail and Sunderland Online covered the story.

  1. #ItsComingHome

It may not have come home this world cup, but there was still lots to play for at the trusts third annual football tournament at the weekend.

Previous winners, team porters/x-ray and team finance both returned this year, joined by team Hartlepool theatres, team estates and team Physio who all battled in a 5 a side tournament to come out on top!

  1. Trust gastroenterologist is appointed chair of cancer research institute

Congratulations to Professor Matt Rutter, consultant gastroenterologist, at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust who has been appointed honorary chair at Newcastle University’s Institute of Cancer Research.

  1. Volunteer drivers needed

The Northern Echo shared the trust’s recruitment appeal for more volunteer drivers. To date, the small dedicated team have driven more than 124,000 miles transporting patients to and from their appointments.

  1. Team of the month

The mortuary and bereavement service has been recognised for the recent tours held for staff and visitors.

Director of nursing, patient safety and quality Julie Lane presented the service with the latest team of the month award.

  1. Volunteers event – thank you for the last 70 years!

The trust held a celebration event to thank our volunteers, with the theme of the NHS 70th birthday.

  1. Sarah on her leadership journey

Education delivery lead Sarah Hodgson is moving forward in her leadership track journey after completing a specialist course.

Sarah has passed the Mary Seacole programme which is a six month programme run by the NHS Leadership Academy.

  1. Free wifi

The trust has become one of the first in the country to offer free WiFi to patients and visitors in its hospital buildings.

This week we are welcoming our new junior doctors to the region. Our postgraduate dean had a message for all of the trust’s new starters – you can view it on our Twitter page.


  1. Dementia advanced course

Well done to the latest group of modern apprentices who completed a one-day advanced dementia awareness training day.
