At a prestigious awards ceremony at the House of Commons earlier this week (10th July) the EAU team from North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust went head to head with other regional winners from across the country at the NHS Parliamentary Awards.

The awards ceremony, supported by Fuji Film, celebrated outstanding health and care staff who help patients as part of the NHS Long Term Plan.

The Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust were named as the regional winner of the Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award in June of this year and narrowly missing out on the national award in the capital.

The shortlist was made up of hundreds of clinicians who go above and beyond the call of duty every single day. The individuals, all have one common goal – to make a genuine difference to the people they care for.

The North Tees Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU), nominated by Alex Cunningham MP and Mike Hill MP, provides high quality emergency acute care to 400,000 patients across Stockton, Hartlepool and North Tees. The North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust initiative has allowed for more tailored care for 30,000 patients at the EAU each year. Streamlining the services has an impact not only on their ability to provide efficient, safe care for but also enhances the level of care provided within the Accident & Emergency Department.

Dr Dawn Ashley, Urgent and Emergency Care Consultant at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust said: “We were overwhelmed to win the regional Excellence in Urgent & Emergency Care award. Although we missed out on the national award we are immensely proud to represent the North East and Yorkshire. This national nomination is testament to the exceptional work of all staff in EAU. It is their commitment, hard work and professionalism that has enabled us to provide the very best quality of care for our patients.”

Deepak Dwarakanath, Medical Director and Deputy Chief Executive of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust added: “To be recognised on a national level is a truly outstanding achievement for the EAU team. Their commitment to patient care has once again elevated the reputation of North Tees and Hartlepool Foundation Trust, underpinning our position as a leading provider of Urgent and Emergency Care nationally. We are extremely proud of everyone involved.”
