Students from new medical school welcomed to trust

The trust welcomed the first group of students from the University of Sunderland’s new medical school today.

Professor Jane Metcalf, deputy medical director, had a chance to meet students this morning and speak to them about the organisation and their training.

The group were then given a tour of the University Hospital of North Tees and had the opportunity to speak to staff and patients.

This is the start of an exciting new partnership between the trust and one of its local universities.

As a new school of medicine at Sunderland, the honours degree offers an innovative, highly-integrated curriculum.

Professor Metcalf said: “We hope the students had an enjoyable first experience and look forward to seeing them when they return for future clinical placements.”
