Leg break leads to donation

Massive ‘thank you’ to Lucy Bettley for the very kind donation of £300 and sweet treats for our orthopaedic outpatients team.

Lucy Bettley and Mihaela McDonald Sponsored by friends and family Lucy, 13, from Ingleby Barwick, ran around her garden for two and half hour every night, until a fall resulted in a fractured right leg!

Treated by our orthopaedic outpatients team Lucy and her mum popped up to University Hospital of North Tees today to hand over the cheque and hamper. Nurse practitioner Simona   McDonald accepted the kind gift on behalf of her colleagues.

Lucy, who attends All Saints Church of England Academy, said: “Our garden isn’t even that big! It was fun until I fell over but I’m glad I did it.”

Simona commented: “What a lovely thing to do! Lucy has been a little ray of sunshine every time we’ve seen her.

“The financial donation is such a wonderful gesture and we’re all enjoying the treats during our breaks.”

Lucy will be donating a further £300 from her sponsorship to South Tees NHS Foundation Trust.
