Hospital salon offering special treatments ahead of staff awards night

AHEAD of the trust’s annual awards evening, a local businesswoman who runs a hospital hair and beauty salon is offering special treatments for staff.

Dawn Cuthbert, who runs Cutting Edge @NTH salon at the University Hospital of North Tees, still has appointments free for any staff going along to the Shining Stars awards tomorrow evening.

Dawn offers a whole range of hair and beauty treatments at subsidised prices for staff, patients and hospital visitors.

She manages the salon with help from final year hair and beauty apprentices at Stockton Riverside College.

Clinical educator Lisa Blom, who has been shortlisted in the Learner of the Year category, has booked a hair appointment for tomorrow.

Lisa said: “Some of my colleagues have been along to the salon before and have been really complimentary about the service Dawn and the students provide.

“I spoke to Dawn today and she was more than happy to fit me in for an appointment tomorrow – it’s fantastic to know I can get such a professional service at a location which is so convenient for staff, as well as for patients and anyone passing through the hospital.”

Dawn, who has previously worked as a domestic for a neighbouring NHS Trust, has formerly run her own hair salon business in Middlesbrough, not only provides treatments from the salon but can also travel out to clinical areas to reach patients who may be able to get to her.

She said: “What is unique about this role is that I can make a real difference to the organisation – to staff, patients and visitors.

“I have already been out into clinical areas to help patients and I would like to increase this side of the role.

“Ahead of the Shining Stars awards, I still have space for any staff who would like a treatment. Just get in touch and I will book you in for an appointment!”

The salon is located near to the main reception of the hospital – either pop in to speak to Dawn or visit the Facebook page at
