A HOSPITAL hair and beauty salon will be running a full time service – after teaming up with a local businesswoman.
From Monday, it will be open every weekday, between 10am and 2.30pm, offering a full range of treatments including styling, colouring and beauty treatments.
The business was set up last year as part of a partnership between North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and Stockton Riverside College.
Since then, it has been run two days a week by final year college hair and beauty apprentices.
Dawn, who has previously worked as a domestic for a neighbouring NHS Trust, has formerly run her own hair salon business in Middlesbrough.
She said: “I am really excited to be a part of this fantastic new venture.
“I have always been passionate about the hair salon industry. When I heard about this opportunity, this seemed a great chance to combine this with something that seemed more than just a business.
“In this role I will be able to make a real difference to patient care and give something back to the NHS. We have really ambitious plans, which include going out into clinical areas and helping patients.
“This feels more than just a business. It’s something which is developing our next generation of workers while also benefitting patient care.”
Vicki Spinks, workforce project manager at the Trust, said: “We are delighted to have recruited Dawn to this role.
“She is really passionate about making a difference and I know she will add to the success of the salon.
“We want to not only be a business which makes money which can go directly back into patient care. We also want to do more, including getting out on to the wards and helping patients who can’t leave their bedside.
“We’ve now got a committed and dedicated team of apprentices and an experienced manager who can make this dream a reality.”
