Friends and family test goes online

Patients who are treated at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust can now complete the friends and family test online.

The national friends and family test which was first introduced in 2013, asks patients the simple question, “how likely are you to recommend our ward or A&E department to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?”

Now, they can also use the online form on the trust’s website to give us their feedback. Patients are given answers to choose from, ranging from extremely likely to extremely unlikely, and are given the opportunity to explain their response.

Barbara Carr, assistant director of nursing, quality and patient and public engagement said: “Patients will still be able to complete the paper questionnaire, but this new form is just another way for them to give us their feedback at their convenience, either on a computer, tablet or mobile phone.

“Since the friends and family was introduced it has been great to see so many people leaving us feedback, which has often been very positive.

“We review all the feedback and work with the senior clinical matrons to make sure the staff receive positive comments and also to identify any areas for improvement.

“Results are published on the NHS Choices website to give people an idea of the quality of care that other patients have received at their local hospitals.

“It is so important that we gather feedback from our patients to find out what we are doing well and how we can make improvements to make sure our patients receive the best possible experience.”
