A doctor in training has been recognised with an award in memory of a highly respected senior doctor who was instrumental in helping develop medics.
This year’s trophy was handed to Fiona Leung, while the work of foundation year one doctors Sharmaine Quake, Kasim Usmani and Elizabeth Booth was also recognised.
Year two doctor Khin Sane Lan was also presented with an award to mark exemplary portfolio work throughout her training, while the respiratory unit were awarded the Quality Award.
Many of the trust’s consultant doctors came along to a special ceremony at the University Hospital of North Tees to show their support.
Deepak Dwarakanath, medical director and deputy chief executive, said at the event: “It’s a pleasure to present awards such as these.
“It’s clear from the feedback we get that we value our doctors in training and treat them extremely well.
“Every consultant plays a part in training our doctors of the future. This is one of the great traditions of this place – education and training.
“We train pre and post-graduates, something a medium sized trust such as ourselves should be proud of.
“Congratulations to all of the doctors who have been recognised and thank you to all of our staff for supporting them through their training.”
