Blue badge holders

We have recently introduced parking charges for blue badge holders.

The decision to do this has been taken because we have to make savings of £40m over the next three years. Introducing car parking charges for blue badge holders is just one of the ways we are trying to either make savings or bring in income while protecting front line jobs and services as far as possible.

If you are a blue badge holder and you receive benefits such as income-based jobseekers allowance, working tax credit or pension credit you can reclaim the cost of your hospital travel. A leaflet, Healthcare Travel Cost Scheme (HTCS) leaflet, published by the Department of Health gives you more information about getting help with travel costs.

This leaflet is available at the cashiers office at both hospitals or you can find it online at http://www.dh.gov.uk/publications

To help reduce the cost of parking for frequent visitors we have made a number of packages available.   A weekly pass is £15 and a monthly pass £25 and we also have a season ticket for £25, which covers a period of treatment for up to one year.

Parking is free for patients receiving treatment at our hospitals for cancer. Please ask at the ward or department where you are receiving your treatment and they will help you complete the appropriate paperwork.

Parking

We have plenty of space for your car in our patient and visitor car parks. We charge for parking and use the money raised to constantly improve lighting and security so you can be assured we are doing everything we can to keep your car safe while you’re in our hospitals.

We were delighted to receive, for the fifth year running, the Park Mark award for the quality of our car parks. We are determined to ensure people who need to park in a disabled space can always do so and emergency vehicles carrying very sick patients can always get to where they need to be on site.

If we find people who are parking thoughtlessly we put a sticker on their car and we issue civil penalty fines to people who have ignored these requests more than three times. We don’t want this to be you, so please consider others when you’re parking; that sick person in the ambulance that can't get through to accident and emergency could have been you.

To use the system please collect a ticket from the barrier machine and pay at any of the blue machines before you go to your car.
